Make Room

December 12, 2019 Olivia Blinn

The Brief

The International Rescue Committee wanted to help parents of young children welcome refugees into their communities and host them in their homes.

The Solution

The campaign drew on values of warmth, connection and openness in order to encourage the welcoming of refugees. A contemporary take on Islamic geometric patterns drove the design. Vintage Syrian postcards inspired the color palette; Syria currently produces the greatest number of refugees globally.

Prism Cosmetics

December 12, 2019 Olivia Blinn

The Brief

The goal was to create a brand identity for a gender-neutral makeup range and subscription service that is expressive, exclusive and deluxe, particularly targeting those who identify as non-binary.

The Solution

Using themes of inclusion, expression and autonomy, the idea behind the brand was that “everyone deserves to feel like themselves.” The name was derived from the source at which all color comes — it just need light to shine through. Through an exploration of prisms within geography, the logo suite was created based on Schlegel diagrams.

Polyphonic Review

December 12, 2019 Olivia Blinn

The Brief

The objective was to create an annual report for a music streaming service and community that takes an indie, underground and far-out approach.

The Solution

The design focused on being expressive and unexpected, using bold colors and graphic elements that mimic sonic waves. The imagery was chosen based on its unique or strange angles, as a nod to the approach that the company takes to its service.

Bon Iver Record

December 12, 2019 Olivia Blinn

The Brief

The objective was to recreate an album cover for the record For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver — showcasing the album themes of isolation and fragility.

The Solution

A single red leaf frozen into a block of ice became the design centerpiece, a nod to the months that Justin Vernon spent alone in a cabin in the woods of Wisconsin, writing the album. All text other than the production company information was handwritten in order to give the record a more personal feel and create a thin, frail style.

The Brief

The objective was to redesign a music magazine, both the cover and an article layout, that takes a unique perspective on music and digs beyond the surface.

The Solution

The cover design was driven by the idea of the “aesthetics of the auditory” and the ways in which music and musicians exist in both audible and visual spaces. The article about pop music drew on the paradox of pop feeling personal yet being mass-marketed. The design used handwritten elements to create a personal feel.

Brood Cold Brew

December 12, 2019 Olivia Blinn

The Brief

The goal was to create packaging for a hard iced coffee, targeting coffee connoisseurs. This work also required the crafting of a brand backstory.

The Solution

Brood, a Los Angeles-based company, was started by two women who are nearly polar opposites. One is from the mountains and the other from the coast. One enjoys the science behind coffee and cocktails, the other enjoys the artistry. Together, they created a brand aiming to be shared between friends. The packaging design draws on their home locales, as well as the graffiti in the Los Angeles Arts District.
