Micronesia from above

Some days, I wake up really missing Micronesia.

This is the island of Falalop in the remote Ulithi Atoll. In order to get there, I had to fly from Pohnpei, stop in Chuuk, and land in Guam. I would change planes and fly to mainland Yap. Twice a week, a little 8-seater plane flew out to Falalop. I captured this image from that plane.

I spent many a night in this lodge. We would spend all day at our worksites within the atoll, going island to island by boat. In the late afternoon, we’d arrive back at the lodge. I would make a cup of coffee, go for a swim, watch the sunset, eat dinner, and read a book. The 3G was spotty at best, and the island was entirely residential. It was a simpler time, and it certainly felt magical sometimes.
