Chetosal has been a teacher in northwest Cambodia for 16 years. He currently teaches grades three and four at a village primary school. Although he loves his job, it is incredibly challenging. In the rainy season, the road leading to the school washes out, and some students are not able to travel to school. The school building only has two rooms, and two classes are taught in each room. One half of the room has desks facing forward, and the other half of the room faces the opposite way, with a teacher at each end. Samaritan's Purse is in the process of helping to build a new school on the current school grounds.

On a bordertown in northwest Cambodia, villages transport bags of rice given to them by Samaritan's Purse. In the beginning of 2015, drought led to crop failure, leaving many villagers without a source of food. Because of the proximity to Thailand, many Cambodians migrate in order to find work. However, the International Organization for Migration Cambodia estimates that 25% of these migrants meet the criteria for trafficking and abuse. In order to assist these villagers, Samaritan's Purse conducted rice distributions, working closely with village leaders to ensure fairness.

ryea rocks her two-month-old baby boy as he sleeps soundly in her lap. During her pregnancy, Samaritan's Purse village volunteers trained her in how to stay healthy and encouraged her to give birth in a health center. She listened carefully and followed their suggestions, because she had heard stories about the risks associated with home births — a practice that is common in rural Cambodia. During her pregnancy she visited the health center for regular prenatal check-ups and learned about the importance of good hygiene practices. She believes that all of these lessons helped prepare her to be a good mother. // Learn more about maternal, infant and child health programming done by Samaritan's Purse and motherhood in Cambodia, and read a trip reflection by Olivia // All photos in both articles by Olivia Blinn

During a nutrition screening hosted by Samaritan's Purse, Pisae learned that her 2-year-old daughter, Pro, was undernourished. Pro is a picky eater and was not receiving the nutrition she needed. Pisae began attending cooking demonstrations hosted by Samaritan's Purse. Pisae feels like a "good woman" because she now knows how to make and keep her child healthy. She said that all moms live in fear that something they will do will make their child sick. Having attending the classes, Pisae is now the one leading the classes, teaching other women in the village how to make a nutritious porridge. // Learn more about maternal, infant and child health programming done by Samaritan's Purse and motherhood in Cambodia, and read a trip reflection by Olivia // All photos in both articles by Olivia Blinn

In a small village an hour outside of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, children beam from ear to ear after receiving a gift from Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child partners with local churches in over 100 countries around the world to send shoebox gifts to children who are in need.

Tuol Sleng Genocide museum is located in the heart of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Under the Khmer Rouge from 1975 - 1979, it was named security Prison 21, or S-21, and used as an interrogation center where innocent people were imprisoned and tortured. It was one of at least 150 execution centers run by the Khmer Rouge. S-21 had been a high school, but the Khmer Rouge outlawed schooling and murdered anyone who was highly educated. The Khmer Rouge blindfolded people before taking them to S-21, and the people had no idea that they were still in their beloved city. Almost 20,000 people passed through S-21, but only 7 people survived.

Senior Jason Leith draws a portrait of Roberta, a woman he met while walking the streets of Skid Row. Leith has been doing this for the last few months, walking the streets of Skid Row in hopes of meeting someone and draw a portrait. He will walk through the neighborhood for up to an hour — sometimes he meets someone, sometimes he doesn’t. Each of these portraits will be a part of Leith’s senior show, Sacred Streets, which will be held in a structure he and his team are building behind Union Rescue Mission, right in the heart of Skid Row. // The Chimes, April 10, 2013 // A selection of these photos have been featured on sacredstreets.org and christianitytoday.com.

"When I think of the modesty conversation and purity movement, my concern is that the approach is a bit reductive. Shrouding a person in reams of cloth will not reframe their perspective on the value of their body or the appropriate ‘stewardship’ of their physicality. Being afraid of one’s body certainly isn’t the answer." --Lena

"In a moralistic culture, that’s everything — to be the best, and to be the purest, and to be somebody that’s above that, who isn’t causing others to stumble. I would see this, and I would think that that was just the norm, that was just the way things were — this world where the currency was power through shame." --Ethan
